What must be on a Dutch freelancer invoice? (EN checklist)
Updated 2026-10-23
General information, not tax or legal advice. Rules and rates change; check the Belastingdienst website or an adviser for your situation.
A Dutch invoice must include, among other things:
- A unique, sequential invoice number
- Invoice date and date of supply
- Your name, address and VAT identification number (btw-id)
- Your KvK (Chamber of Commerce) number
- Client name and address
- Description and quantity of the work
- Amount excluding VAT, VAT rate and VAT amount per rate
- For EU business clients under reverse charge: the client's VAT number and the text "VAT reverse-charged" (btw verlegd)
Sequential numbering is the one people break most often; use an automatic counter.
